It helps to say which device you are using (your iPhone or iPad model and iOS version, plus your Apple Watch if it is about the watch app) and which version of VolleyLlama you have, shown at the bottom of Settings. Send Diagnostic Logs under Settings, then Support, puts those details into a message for you. It never includes player names or scores.
Scoring
Which pickleball rules does VolleyLlama support?
- Side-out scoring, where only the serving side scores, and rally scoring, where every rally scores a point
- Singles and doubles
- Games to 11, 15 or 21, won by two points or by one
- Best of 1, 3 or 5 games
- Who is serving, from which side of the court, and who the second server is
- Prompts to change ends, and game point and match point shown as they arrive
Choose your format under Settings, or use Customize Match on the Play tab to change it for a single match.
What is the call, and why does it show three numbers?
The call is the score the server announces before every serve. In doubles with side-out scoring it has three numbers: the serving side's score, the receiving side's score, and which server is about to serve, 1 or 2. So 4-2-1 means the serving side has 4, the receiving side has 2, and the first server is serving. In singles, or with rally scoring, there are two numbers.
Why does a doubles match start at 0-0-2?
In doubles with side-out scoring, the side that serves first starts the game with only one turn to serve, so it begins as the second server. That is why the first call is 0-0-2.
I tapped the side that won the rally, but the score did not change
With side-out scoring only the serving side can score. If the side that was receiving wins the rally, no point is scored and the serve moves on instead. In doubles, when the first server loses a rally the serve passes to their partner, the second server. When the second server loses it, or in singles, the serve passes to the other side. VolleyLlama shows the new server and the new call. If you tapped the wrong side, use Undo.
How do I undo a rally?
On iPhone and iPad, tap Undo on the scoreboard. On the Apple Watch, an Undo button appears for a few seconds after every rally, and Undo last point is always on the controls page: swipe up or turn the Digital Crown.
When does VolleyLlama tell us to change ends?
After every game, and in a deciding game when one side reaches the halfway point: 6 in a game to 11, 8 in a game to 15, and 11 in a game to 21.
Who serves first, and from which court?
You choose in Settings, under First serve, or in Customize Match for one match. VolleyLlama then shows who is serving and whether they serve from the right or the left court, and keeps it up to date as the match goes on.
Apple Watch
VolleyLlama is not on my Apple Watch
VolleyLlama for Apple Watch installs automatically with the iPhone app when your watch is set to install apps automatically. If it did not, open the Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, scroll to Available Apps and tap Install next to VolleyLlama.
The watch app needs watchOS 10 or later.
How do I put the score on my watch face?
Touch and hold your watch face, tap Edit, choose a complication slot and pick VolleyLlama. While a match is on, the complication shows the live score, and the Smart Stack puts the score at the top. When no match is on, it offers a shortcut to start one.
A match I scored on my watch is not on my iPhone
Matches you finish on the watch are sent to your iPhone. If your phone is not nearby, the watch keeps the match and tells you Will sync when your iPhone is nearby. It is delivered the next time the two connect. Open VolleyLlama on your iPhone and check History. If it is still missing after a few minutes with both devices close together, email us.
Can I follow the score on my phone while the watch is scoring?
Yes. While a match is on, the Play tab on your iPhone shows a Live on Apple Watch card that opens a read-only scoreboard. You score on the watch and the phone shows it. You cannot add points from the phone while the watch is scoring.
Languages
How do I change the language?
Open Settings in VolleyLlama and tap Language. VolleyLlama is available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese. The default follows your iPhone's language. The Apple Watch app uses the language you pick on the iPhone.
VolleyLlama Pro
What does VolleyLlama cost?
VolleyLlama is free to download. Scoring, history and stats are part of VolleyLlama Pro, which you can get as Lifetime (one payment) or Monthly (an auto-renewing subscription that starts with a 1-week free trial). The App Store sets the price for your country and shows it on the upgrade screen before you pay.
How do I cancel Monthly?
On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose VolleyLlama and tap Cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the free trial or the current period, or you will be charged for the next one. You keep Pro until the period you paid for ends.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles the payment, so refunds go through Apple too. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot refund a purchase ourselves.
I already bought Pro, but VolleyLlama is asking me to upgrade
Open the upgrade screen and tap Restore, or tap Restore purchases in Settings. Use the same Apple Account you bought with. If you have a new phone, this is how Pro comes back.
The upgrade screen says plans could not be loaded
That means the App Store did not answer. Check your connection and tap Try again. If it keeps happening, email us and tell us your country.
Apple Health
What does VolleyLlama save to Health?
When you score on the Apple Watch, VolleyLlama records the match as a Pickleball workout in Health. During that workout it also reads your heart rate and active calories, to show them on the watch and in your History.
Heart rate or calories are not showing
Check that VolleyLlama is allowed in Health (Settings, then Health, then Data Access & Devices, then VolleyLlama) and that your watch is worn snugly on your wrist. Heart rate and calories only come from matches scored on the Apple Watch, since an iPhone has no sensor for them.
Does VolleyLlama read my other health data?
No. VolleyLlama only asks to save workouts and to read heart rate and active calories.
Your data
Where are my matches stored?
On your own devices. VolleyLlama has no account and no server. The Privacy Policy has the details.
How do I delete a match, or everything?
In History, swipe a match to delete it. Deleting the VolleyLlama app removes everything it stores on that device. Workouts saved to Health stay in Health until you delete them there.
Does VolleyLlama need an internet connection?
VolleyLlama uses the internet only to check your subscription and show prices. Scoring itself does not need a connection.
Requirements
iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. The Apple Watch app needs watchOS 10 or later.
